BAGS OF COMFORT

WHEN JEN MET KEN

The Sunflower Sisters and I are beyond grateful for all the wonderful hygiene and beauty products you have so far donated to our beauty box for The Beauty Banks . To date, we have collected over 300kg of items! Every single item has gone to The Trussell Trust Dundee Food Bank to help people in need in Dundee.

I visited Dundee Foodbank in February to see how our salon community could better serve people in crisis in Dundee. I spent the morning helping out and finding out how they operate. Ken the Foodbank manager and all the amazing volunteers there do an incredible job! It was wonderful to see all your donations of beauty and hygiene products going to such a wonderful cause.

It got me thinking, how could we make life easier for the already very busy volunteers and get essential hygiene and beauty products to their clients in the most convenient and appropriate way possible?

Comfort Packs!

My idea is to sort and pack different bags into three categories for women, children and men with products that are specific to their needs:

Our salon goal is to provide packs that will have:

  • A Bar of Soap (they weigh less than shower gels for people who are collecting food parcels on foot – and they last longer too).
  • A bottle of shampoo.
  • A toothbrush.
  • toothpaste.
  • A deodorant.
  • Sanitary towels or shaving foam.

And also

  • Toilet paper
  • Face moisturiser
  • Conditioner

… and any treat you can think of too!

So, that’s our wish list! We can’t express how much we appreciate your help.

Of course, we are still collecting any unused items or unwanted gifts and beauty treats that you can afford to donate, a full list of ideas is on a previous blog.

We’ll take your spare carrier bags too!

At the foodbank they try to send clients away with parcels in supermarket bags for life, which are large and strong enough to carry all the food.

As you might imagine, they get through a lot of these bags. If you can, please donate bags for life – it doesn’t matter what supermarket, they are an equal opportunity bag user!

Please keep all your donations coming in, we are beyond grateful!

Thank you!

Jen
